Now this! This is how you do a reboot of a cult classic! It's been so long since a movie made me want to immediately rewatch it right after I finished watching it. This is how this one made me feel. After watching every single one of the SPM (Slumber Party Massacre) series of movies, I can confidently say that this is the best entry in the series, followed by the original one of course. One gets the impression that if Amy Holden Jones and Rita Mae Brown (director and writers of the 1982 original classic respectively) had the chance and freedom to redo the original SPM today, they'd come up with more or less what Danishka Esterhazy has given us here. Esterhazy has succeeded in taking the original SPM and contextualizing it for a modern audience in a manner that adds to the comedy and the horror of the original, and with performances that far outmatch those of the original actors. Not many directors are able to do such justice to cult classics and for this, I thank her and all the actors whose amazing performances made this possible. Regarding the latter, of special note is the electric performance of Hannah Gonera as Dana Deveraux. While any lover of fun and bloody horror flicks will definitely find a lot of rib-cracking satirical humor and heart-stopping horror moments in here to keep them amply entertained, there's also lots of nods and references to the first three SPM movies that will particularly keep SPM fans engaged. From the names of the characters to the mannerisms of the killer to the props used in the movie and a lot more, SPM fans have a lot of references to keep themselves busy exploring while enjoying the more original elements of this reboot. As such, I especially recommend this one for SPM fans but also strongly recommend it to all lovers of a good slasher and comedy horror flick. I also recommend it to those who love movies containing lighthearted commentaries on important social issues. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I think I'm gonna give this one a second watch (and possibly a third one after that). Edit: Finished watching this a second time and I LOVE it even more! Now I want it made into a series of its own. I'm really hoping they'll at least make a sequel cause I'd love to see so much more of Trish's badassery.
